the V1 kits are advisable in applications without a subwoofer as they produce more midbass. The VR kits don't play as low as a V1, but they have better sound quality due to more sophisticated crossovers and the incorporation of phase plugs, the solid metal spikes in the centre of each driver.
The subwoofers in this range are designed for small sealed enclosures. Tonally, they are smooth and accurate, without boom. These are the thinking man's subwoofer. Many purchasers of Polyglass V2 are musicians, people who know how instruments should sound.

6-1/2" Two-Way Component System

2 way 165mm (6.5") kit, separate crossover with tweeter level control and crossover slope control. Featuring Focal's new TN241 tweeters, and a solid metal phase plug, both contributing to improved tonal accuracy and clarity. These new tweeters are smooth and warm-sounding. Their cones are made from a special magnesium alloy which is extremely light and has a high rigidity index (in other words, no ripples in the surface while playing, therefore no distortion and harshness).

165VR is our best-selling speaker kit.

It has a very high sensitivity of 94.5 dB. An amplifier will always give improved sound quality, but if you can't use an amplifier these speakers will run well on your factory head unit.

TN241

TNB tech details

new TN241 tweeter with magnesium-alloy cone

a new tweeter devised for the VR series, sweet-sounding and high-definition, with a very large soundstage. The extended frequency response to 28kHz reproduces sounds far beyond the human ear's normal range. These frequencies are encoded in many modern recordings and may be detected as an airiness and transparency in the music. What the ear can't hear, other parts of the body can sometimes detect. It has been reported that the hairs on your arms and skin can recognise frequencies that the ears cannot detect. Whatever the truth, in ideal listening conditions an improvement in sound can be detected when compared to tweeters which cut off at 15 or 16 kHz, the limit of most human ears.

The magnet in TN241 is a high-flux neodymium magnet. TN241 is supplied in speaker kits with both above-surface mount and recess-mounting cups. Use of the recess-mounting cups gives the best sound quality; see the article on 'spill' in the tips column of this webpage.
